The Art of the Northern Sauna: Why Traditional Craftsmanship Still Matters

We build saunas the right way — by hand, with real materials and proven methods. There’s no secret behind it. Good wood, tight construction, and proper insulation make all the difference. Too many saunas today are made to go together fast and look good for a short while. Then the seams open, the boards twist, and the heat fades. A true northern sauna is built, not assembled.
Built by Hand, Layer by Layer
Every North Country Sauna starts with a solid frame. We cut, insulate, and seal each layer ourselves — vapor barrier, tight seams, and cedar inside and out. No foam boards, no plastic, no shortcuts. We build like we’re putting up a small cabin, because that’s how you keep the heat in and the moisture out.
The Materials Make the Difference
We use northern white cedar because it’s strong, stable, and naturally resistant to rot. It smells clean and lasts for years of heat and steam. Pine and hemlock can’t match that — they twist, crack, and bleed sap. For siding, we use real pine boards or half-log finishes, never pressed panels. Inside, the cedar stays natural — no stain or varnish, just clean wood that breathes.
No Corners Cut
We don’t build for showrooms. We build for people who actually use their saunas — through snow, rain, and real winters. Every sauna leaves our shop insulated and sealed like a home, with stainless screws, real gaskets, and proper ventilation. If something doesn’t fit right, it’s redone. That’s just how we work.
The Details Matter
Good bench spacing, air flow, stove placement, and roof pitch — every part of a sauna serves a purpose. Those details make the heat steady, the air clean, and the structure last. You don’t guess at those things. You learn them from years of building, testing, and improving.
The North Country Way
We’re based in the Northeast, and we build for people who value quality and durability. Many try to imitate it, but they cannot replicate our builds. We build the best sauna models we can and stand behind every one. When you step inside a North Country Sauna, you’ll feel the difference immediately — solid heat, natural scent, and quiet craftsmanship that speaks for itself.
