Sauna-related Questions, Answered

Everything you need to know about our outdoor saunas, wood-fired sauna stoves, cold plunges, delivery, insulation, and year-round use.

What types of saunas do you build?

Answer:

We offer four main categories:

Traditional Saunas – classic design, fast heating, compact footprint.

Modern Saunas – modern design with large tempered windows, comfortable and fast heating.

Mobile Saunas – trailer-mounted, road-ready saunas for rentals, events, or seasonal moves.

Custom Wellness Builds – combination units that can include a sauna plus a cold plunge, outdoor shower, hot tub, red light, or salt therapy features.

Being avid sauna enthusiasts ourselves, we are constantly evolving toward ultimate wellness and multi-modality sauna experiences, incorporating additional healing practices such as red light therapy, pharmaceutical-grade salt therapy using halogenerators, cold plunging, and cold showering for contrast and immune support.
We also encourage customers to bring their vision to us, and we are happy to build it.

2

How much do your saunas cost?

Answer:

Pricing depends on model, size, and custom features:

Traditional Saunas start around $5,999.

Each sauna is hand-built from premium cedar with North Country Saunas’ 7-layer high-performance wall system, ensuring unmatched insulation, durability, and year-round performance for both traditional saunas and full wellness sauna cabins.

3

Describe how you deliver saunas

All deliveries are site-based. That means we place your sauna directly onto your prepared pad, gravel area, or deck—as long as the location is safely accessible by truck or trailer.

4

What is included in the price of my sauna?

Answer:

Every sauna comes with:

• Wood-fired Finnish-style stove
• North Country Saunas offers a variety of high-performance stove models with rock capacity
• Sauna bucket and ladle
• Thermometer / hygrometer
• 15-minute sand timer
• 125–200 lbs of stones, depending on stove model

All saunas are built using tempered safety glass.

5

Do you offer financing?

Answer: Yes

6

How does delivery work?

Answer:

Once your sauna is complete, we schedule delivery and placement at your site.

Site Preparation:
We recommend a level gravel pad for best long-term stability. However, we can also place your sauna on patio blocks or pavers, as long as the area is properly leveled and accessible.

7

Can I customize my sauna design?

Answer: Yes

8

What makes your saunas different from competitors?

Answer:

Many mass-market saunas use thin walls, minimal insulation, or lightweight homemade stoves.
At North Country Saunas, we build with:

    • 7-layer wall system for superior heat retention and safety. Alternative, cheaper choices are NOT an option for us.
    • Large rock-capacity wood stoves for richer, more stable steam
    • Custom New England craftsmanship – every sauna is hand-built, not factory pressed
    • Direct local delivery and service – no third-party freight, no “kit-in-a-box”
    • True Finnish-style sauna stoves with 125–200 lb stone capacity

This approach supports deeper heat, better steam quality, and long-term durability.

9

How long does it take to heat the sauna?

Answer:

Most North Country Saunas reach 160–180°F in 25–35 minutes, depending on stove model, the sauna size and outdoor temperature.

10

Are your saunas four-season? Can they be used in winter?

Answer:

Yes. The cold seasons are the best for a complete sauna experience. Our saunas are engineered for heavy snow, wind, and subzero temperatures.
All models include insulated walls, weather-resistant exterior options, and snow-load roof design.

11

What kind of maintenance does a wood-fired sauna require?

Answer:

Maintenance is minimal:
• Empty ash periodically
• Rinse or replace stones as needed
• Ventilate after each use
• Re-seal or re-stain the exterior yearly

12

What materials do you use inside and outside of the sauna?

Answer:

Exteriors are made from premium pine or LP SmartSide, offering 50+ years of warranty.

Interiors are made from premium, untreated white or Kentucky red cedar.
We never use pressure-treated lumber or chemical coatings inside the hot room.

13

What is the lifetime of a North Country Sauna?

Answer:

With proper care, a North Country Sauna is built to last a lifetime.
Cedar interiors, weather-resistant exteriors, and our multi-layer wall system support long-term durability in all climates.

14

Can you deliver saunas to tight-access or wooded properties?

Answer:

Yes. We regularly place saunas in narrow, sloped, or wooded locations as long as our truck and trailer or mule equipment can safely access the site.
Placement details should always be discussed with a North Country Saunas representative prior to delivery.

15

Do your saunas have electricity or lighting?

Answer:

We build saunas with no electricity or with off-grid/grid-ready lighting.

Optional off-grid lighting packages may include:

• Interior LED lighting
• Under-bench lighting
• Exterior lighting
• Change-room lighting

All off-grid lighting can be connected to a customer-supplied solar panel for a fully electricity-free setup.
